Static Force Characteristic of Annular Gaps – Experimental and Simulation Results

Abstract We discuss the static characteristics, i.e., induced force on rotor, attitude angle and pressure difference, of off-centered annular gaps with an axial flow component without cavitation. The paper focuses turbulent inside annulus. Instead modeling inertia effects using bulk-flow approach, presented model uses integro-differential approach in combination power-law ansatz functions for velocity profiles a Hirs’ to calculate resulting field. For experimental validation comparison gap test rig is magnetic bearings inherently measure position as well rotor by field gap. investigations are performed three different annuli lengths. impact variation modified Reynolds number, number preswirl ratio difference across annulus investigated compared approach.
